Old Stone House Bed & Breakfast

Enjoy the quiet pastoral, rural setting of the historic Old Stone House Bed and Breakfast (1830), a beautiful Georgian three story quarried limestone home adjacent to the Chepachet Mill Pond. The setting is on 60 acres featuring walking trails through the cedars along the Mill Pond. The Chepachet Pond is the beginning of the Upper Unadilla River and is classified as a trout stream. Nearby Otsego Lake also has great fishing. Relax on the comfortable verandah for afternoon tea, before attending the Glimmerglass Opera or visiting the many area museums. One may also simply just relax and enjoy refreshments served on the upper lawn while overlooking the water lilies on the Chepachet Pond.

Marvel at the spectacular views of Otsego Lake as you make your way into Cooperstown, home of The Baseball Hall of Fame and The Fenimore Art Museum and the Farmers Museum . If opera is on your agenda, you'll need only allow 20 minutes travel time to reach the Glimmerglass Opera House. Also, Colgate University and Hamilton College are within an easy 30-minute drive through rolling unspoiled countryside. Antiques abound!

The Old Stone House features sumptuous full breakfasts with maple syrup from the canopy of our own trees, and other seasonal specialties. Freshly brewed gourmet coffee, muffins or coffee cake fresh from the oven will await you each morning on the verandah.

The Old Stone House is graced with two rooms with a shared bath, and a suite with a private bath. The spacious private suite has its own entrance, easy driveway access, private bath, kitchenette, double bed and day bed, french doors opening on scenic country vistas and a large brick fireplace with a Dutch oven. All rooms are unique and filled with country furnishings. Guests suites are furnished with double, or single beds. Paintings within the house depict the grinding mill and other commercial developments that were on the adjacent riverbank when the Old Stone House was the center of community life in agrarian Chepachet. Built of native limestone in 1830, the guest rooms stay cool and comfortable during the summer. A music room, living room, dining room, and screened-in-verandah are available for the guests to enjoy. This is a perfect location for a romantic or lyrical retreat. Hiking, bike trails, fishing and wooded walks are all available for guests in this unique rural setting which is close to Cooperstown. You might think you are in France or Italy but you are only twenty minutes from the Glimmerglass Opera and thirty minutes from Cooperstown Museums.
